There will always be an adjustment period to consider when adding new children to your program. It will also be a process of readjusting your program to fit the individual’s needs and preparing for the accommodations that may need to be made. A few suggestions include:

"Is it possible to have too many children with special needs in my classroom? How do I know what ratio to use?" - Oscar
Having most of the children in a classroom requiring special accommodations may seem like a daunting or unrealistic task. It is recommended to keep the classroom ratio of children with special needs to children without special needs at a natural level. This means keeping the ratio at the level of the general public or community. This should be the decision of the educators in the classroom as to what ratio they feel comfortable with while still providing professional care to all of their students. |
