Everyone enjoys a fun game with friends. Games are not only enjoyable, but they are an important piece of a child’s development in the classroom. Participating in games gives children the opportunity to practice social skills, gross and fine motor skills, and the chance for sensory development. This course will discuss why games are important, ways to implement them in classroom lesson planning, and how to observe and take advantage of the many learning opportunities that will come along.
Learning Outcomes:
  • Discuss developmental skills that are targeted during gameplay in the classroom
  • Describe observations to make during games and activities
  • Evaluate lesson plans based on knowledge of games and development
  • Practice observing a child playing and recording behavior for reference
  • Analyze the role of games in developing executive function in early childhood
**  A special thank you to Kimberlee Turner, MS Ed for developing the curriculum for this topic. **
