Objectives:
  • Student will be introduced to non-fiction text
  • Student will develop fine and gross motor skills
  • Student will engage in cooperative play with peer

Materials: 
  • Non-fiction book or magazine about penguins 
  • Plastic Easter egg (a bean bag can be substituted if desired) 
Procedure: 
  • Begin reading the non-fiction penguin text with your students. Explain what the difference is between non-fiction and fiction. See if they can give examples.
  • After reading about how penguins transfer eggs, pair students up and instruct them to practice transferring the plastic eggs themselves.  
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record the student’s motor skills. How did they interact with their partner? Record any dialog the student had during the activity. ​
